Leigh Anne King Joins Clarion’s Team of Directors

2015_leighanneSince joining Clarion Associates as an associate in 2005, Leigh Anne King has been helping southeastern communities plan for a successful and sustainable future. She has worked with more than 40 communities to develop comprehensive, long range, and strategic plans to guide future decision-making and public investments.

Building on her experience as a conservation-focused planner, Leigh Anne helped to build the planning practice in Clarion’s Chapel Hill office. Rising from associate, to senior associate, and on to principal, she has been involved in all aspects of Clarion’s southeastern community planning practice since its inception 14 years ago. Joining the team of firm directors means that in addition to leading the planning practice in the Chapel Hill office, she will be working with fellow firm partners to guide the development of the firm into the next decade.

Most recently, Leigh Anne has focused on assisting communities assess and evaluate solutions for addressing workforce and affordable housing challenges and addressing other quality of life concerns crucial to a community’s success.Working as part of a team in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, Leigh Anne led development of a Five-year Affordable Housing Study for the city and its flagship university that identified several critical market dynamics that have shaped the availability of affordable housing over the last decade. The study included the consideration of tools to create more choices for working families and young professionals wanting to live in the city. She is currently working with several North Carolina communities to address the pressures of development in high growth regions to create policy frameworks that can guide future growth to benefit all community members and maintain a sense of place as change occurs.She is also serving as the co-chair of the APA-NC Affordable Housing Task Force that is developing a compendium of information about affordable and workforce housing tools available to North Carolina communities.

While Leigh Anne has taken on the highest leadership role in the firm, she continues to be dedicated to her clients and the hands on planning work of the firm. She is committed to mentoring and building the next generation of Clarion planners.
